does not identify my macintosh HD

I am trying to update my 27" imac from 2017 from High Sierra to a more recent OS like Ventura. I can't get the OS to update because it thinks my Macintosh HD is a temporary storage device and IDK how to fix this situation....can't seem to get past the install page so long as this is the case. Any ideas of what to do?
