IPad Pro (12.9-inch) (5th gen) still stutters/laggs even after 16.5.1 update

Hi Apple,

Ever since I got my iPad Pro, I can’t help but notice that it has its usual lagging almost daily. It usually comes in forms of when I am doing my usual scrolling using just the screen itself, the whole frame would freeze and I would lock the screen and then to unlock it again, would work, then would lagg. I sometimes also have my iPad Pro attached to the Magic Keyboard and using the trackpad to scroll and in some apps, it would lagg and I would do the whole thing of locking and unlocking my screen.

An instance as well during typing on the Notes app; mind you on this one I just have my iPad and use of my fingers, and no other iPad accessories on here, I’ve been trying to select a sentence to cut and paste the selection i’ve done to move it on to another line and it pasted but it highlighted on its own that very sentence I just pasted and the app just froze on its own, not working, locking and unlocking again with a little freeze again and done some tapping on the screen until it works normally again.

I’ve tried restarting my iPad, and then the usual lagging-freezing-stuttering would happen again.

I hope you can help me on this one. Frustrating sometimes.

Thank you, and I still love Apple.

Hello IssaCanlas,

Welcome to Apple Support Communities. We understand you have some performance issues while using your iPad Pro. It also appears you've already done some troubleshooting, which are great first steps. There are a few other things we'd recommend to help narrow down what might be causing this behavior.

You mention having a Magic Keyboard connected along with a trackpad. If you haven't already tested, go ahead and disconnect those accessories as well, then use your iPad Pro to see if the same thing occurs. That will confirm if the issue is or is not related to those accessories.

Further, is it just while you are in Notes that this occurs? Or does it seem to happen regardless of what you are actively doing on your iPad Pro? This will narrow down if the issue is specific to an app or overall.

Then, go to Settings > General > About. Confirm what you see available for your iPad Pro storage. If you have little storage available, this may be part of the underlying cause. We'd recommend freeing up space, then testing for the issue again.

Hi there!

Thank you for the swift response! I have just gone back here to check on my inquiry.

This instance happens too on other apps as I do multi-tasking. My default browser and side-by-side another app that I am using would have some lagging that I experience. I have checked my storage which is at 147.43 of 256GB still fine. And I have also done the usual (easy ones) such as re-attaching and removing the iPad from the accessories.

I have just updated to the latest 16.6 and I’ve noticed I haven’t experienced any usual hiccups. Will have yet to further observe as I go along. Will keep you posted.

As always, thank you for the support!
