Can someone tell me the simplest ELI5 way to be completely free of Hide My E-Mail (while allowing me to remain an iPhone user)?

I just want to re-claim control over all my passwords on my iPhone.

Somehow my entire password list got all mucked up over these past couple years. Part of it's my fault for being hasty I guess, but iOS/Safari has done its part to way over-complicate things, and it's to the point that I feel like my security has been compromised, even though all of these things are supposed to be making my online life more secure.

I've read a few threads on this but I don't understand how to do what they say, or the instructions are just not matching the options in the settings, hence the "Explain Like I'm 5" in my title.

It's all too confusing, and I'm getting frustrated. The last thing I want to do is factory reset my phone and re-do all the 200 or so passwords on my list. I want to clean that up anyways, but most of them are in good standing, so I'd like to spare myself whatever hours I can cleaning up a mess that should've never happened in the first place.

I'm blaming you for a majority of it, Apple. l like all my stuff to be neat and tidy, but you made that really difficult.

iPhone 13, iOS 16

Hello Doak37,

We would like to see how we can help you with stopping the use of Hide My Email. This link lays out step by step how to stop using and delete your Hide My Emails: Stop using, reactivate, or delete a Hide My Email address on iCloud.com - Apple Support

"Stop using an address created with Hide My Email

  1. On iCloud.com, click the App Launcher button in the toolbar, then click Hide My Email.
  2. Select the email address you want to stop using.
  3. Click “Deactivate email address,” then follow the onscreen instructions.

When you stop using a unique, random address, any emails sent to that address are returned to the sender.

Reactivate an inactive address

  1. On iCloud.com, click the App Launcher button in the toolbar, then click Hide My Email.
  2. Scroll to the bottom of the list, then select an address below “[number] inactive email address(es).”
  3. Click “Reactivate address,” then follow the onscreen instructions.

Delete an inactive address

You can only delete inactive addresses.

Important: Deleting an address created with Hide My Email is permanent, and it’s deleted on all your devices set up for Hide My Email. You cannot reactivate the address.

  1. On iCloud.com, click the App Launcher button in the toolbar, then click Hide My Email.
  2. Scroll to the bottom of the list, then select an address below “[number] inactive email address(es).”
  3. Click “Delete address,” then follow the onscreen instructions."

Let us know if you have any questions, and we can go from there.

Cheers!
