iMessages not deleted on all devices

The last Ventura update maybe broke messages. Deleting a message on iphone does not delete in macOS and visaversa. This worked fine until the recent update . I’ve tried all of the suggestions to cause them to sync. None did the trick . Help!

iPhone 13 Pro, iOS 16

Hey BillT,

We'd recommend checking to ensure you're signed into messages on both devices with the same Apple ID. If that doesn't help, we'd recommend disabling iMessage on both devices and then turning it back on to refresh and check to see if that helps. You can find steps for that here: Access your messages on all your Apple devices - Apple Support

"Turn off Messages in iCloud

You can turn off Messages in iCloud on all your devices or on your Mac only.

  1. In the Messages app  on your Mac, choose Messages > Settings, then click iMessage.
  2. Click Settings, then deselect Enable Messages in iCloud.
  3. Choose one of the following:
    • Disable All: Turns off Messages in iCloud on all your devices. Messages are no longer stored in iCloud and are instead stored on each device.
    • Disable This Device: Turns off Messages in iCloud on your Mac only. Messages on your Mac are no longer stored in iCloud; on any other device where Messages in iCloud is turned on, messages continue to be stored in iCloud."

Thanks!

Those are all good ideas and I've tried them all more than once. Both iMessage apps on iphone and Mac are signed in with the same appleID and use the same phone number. The iMessage app on the iPhone is set to forward to my Mac. The Mac iMessage app is stuck on "Downloading Messages from iCloud..." but it never gets any messages from iCloud. It only has the messages that I conversed with on the Mac. The iPhone iMessage app has those messages that are on the Mac iMessage app plus more conversations that the Mac iMessage app does not have, because I deleted them from the Mac iMessage app a week or so ago but they never deleted/sync'd on the iPhone iMessage app. Regards, Bill
