i am using snow leopard mail to sync with an exchange server. for some reasons, some emails that have been sent (i can tell because when i log into the exchange server through outlook on vm ware they are in the sent box) are stuck in the outbox of the mac mail program. I can't delete them either (i get the "an error occured while moving messages to trash" message, and no matter how often i restart or resync the exchange mailbox these messages stay in the outbox.

does anyone have an idea what is driving this and how to get rid of it?

    I'm curious if you ever figured this one out. I have the same issue and its driving me batty.

    I am having a similar problem, but it is usually solved by quitting Mail, and then reopening it. But it should not be that way.

    This has recently been happening to me. It is doing this with my .me account (the only one I send from - haven't tested with a different e-mail because that is the only one that I have in my mail application). I compose an e-mail, then hit "send" and it just spins. I have to quit mail, then relaunch for the e-mail to send.

    I wonder what is going on. Any clues?

    UNfortunately, the only "clue" I now have is that the emails get sent ONLY when I restart my computer!
    This morning, I had a similar problem on my Mac Pro, but it was solved by quitting the Mail app. Not so this afternoon on my MacBook Pro. I had to restart.

    This laptop has much less space left upon the HD than does my MacPro. But I must add, the problems on both have been getting worse over the last two days or so.

    So, I am not encouraged.

    As far as I can tell, I too have only been using one server--but the connection doctor does show two.
    I have tried with both, with no difference in performance.

    I am one of the people who had a dot.mac account from many years ago. I opted to continue with this, instead of going to the dot.me naming. By some strange chance, it that your situation, too?

    At the moment, I can think of nothing else to try. Let's hope we solve this, for I think it bad for the computers to have to restart just to answer an email.

    Same problem, started a few days ago - my me.com mail gets stuck sending - ends up in the outbox - I can only get it to send after I quit and re-start Mail. My other POP accounts work fine, no problems with other SMTP servers.

    I assume the emails are stuck in the Mac Mail Exchange Server outbox, no? Did you attempt to delete the Exchange Server accoun__t in Mac Mail and then recreate it?

    yes, did that. the problem is intermittent - it's weird - works for while, then gets stuck sending. now it's been sending fine for the past half hour...

    Just adding my observations:
    * this "sticking" in the Sent mailbox, with the spinning wheel, started 3 or 4 days ago
    * the first email of each session seems to hang-up for 30 - 60 seconds, but then goes out. Subsequent emails are sent right away.

    I'm seeing this too, as of a few days ago. Mail gets stuck in the "On My Mac" outbox and the rest of the exchange mailboxes just sit there and spin.
