sync iMac with iPhone X

When I sync my iMac with my iPhone X, the new calendar items on the Mac are copied to the iPhone, but not the other way around. BUT according to Mac Help, the syncing should work in both directions. I checked all the settings, but can't find anything improper. What am I doing wrong?

I am running 10.15.7 Catalina and iOS 16.5.1

Hello Vincent,

Based on what you've shared we recommend setting up iCloud Calendar on your devices. Here's how: Set up iCloud for Calendar on all your devices - Apple Support

Set up iCloud for Calendar on your iPhone, iPad, or iPod touch

1. On your iPhone, iPad, or iPod touch, go to Settings > [your name] > iCloud.
2. Do one of the following:
* iOS 16, iPadOS 16, or later: Tap Show All, then turn on Calendars.
* iOS 15, iPadOS 15, or earlier: Turn on Calendars.
5. To view calendars stored in iCloud, open the Calendar app, then do one of the following:
* iPhone or iPod touch: Tap Calendars at the bottom of the screen, then select the calendars you want to view in the iCloud section.
* iPad: In the sidebar, select the calendars you want to view in the iCloud section.

Best regards.

Hi Drew_7,

Thanks for your prompt reply, much appreciated. However, I'm avoiding cloud services as much as possible. I don't like others getting my data (whatever they may say about security), and cloud data storage & transport uses a lot of energy. I'll try to solve my problem some other way, and will pick up your advice if that is unsuccessful.

Cheers, - Vincent
