USB SuperDrive to iPhone

Is it possible to burn music files from a CD in Apple USB SuperDrive to iPhone 13 Pro Max? I don’t presently have a MacBook Pro so I want to burn directly from the SuperDrive to my phone.

Any info on how/if I can do this will be appreciated. Thanks. -Kevin

I've never heard of connecting an optical drive directly to an iPhone.

Also, "burning" is not the term for what you're asking about. Burning is when you are writing audio / video / data to an optical disc. (With -R media, this involves burning away some of the dye layer of the blank disc.) If you are importing digital audio from a CD-Audio disc, that goes by names such as "importing", "digital audio extraction", and "ripping."

It should be compatible with a MacBook Air – even an old one. The introduction of the MacBook Air is a big part of the reason that Apple came out with the drive in the first place!

Apple USB SuperDrive - Apple

Compatible with the following computers:

  • The Apple USB SuperDrive is compatible with Mac models from 2008 and later that don't have a built-in optical drive.

  • MacBook, MacBook Air, and MacBook Pro models with USB-C ports require a USB-C to USB adapter (sold separately) to use Apple USB SuperDrive.

Interesting. The Apple Store guy at first said the drive is compatible with MacBook Air but then he did a quick search to make sure, and the info he got said it’s not compatible.

In this case, I would not take his word as definitive.

You might need to use the Apple-brand USB-C to USB-A adapter (instead of a third-party adapter, or a USB-A port on a dock/hub). The thing might be that picky. But Apple's own site says that it is compatible.
