iMac Retina 5K, 27-inch, 2020: Display is progressively brighter towards the bottom edges of the screen when viewing in a dark room. Took it in for service, replaced the GPU but problem remained unchanged.

Understood, see if there is a third party Apple Authorized Service Provider in your area you can take it to or ask the Apple Store staff to test it again, however somewhere where it may have dimmer lighting than the Genius area.

Maybe the problem is not with the GPU, but with the 5K panel's backlight?
The GPU is part of the main logic board and cannot be replaced by itself. Therefore the post about what service you received makes no sense. Please provide additional details.
My mistake, they actually replaced the display, not the GPU. But it didn’t solve the issue at all. When I tried to show them the problem with the display at the Apple Store they couldn’t see it because of the bright lights in the store. At home service is not available in my area.
Thanks so much for your reply and recommendation. Do you think it might have something to do with the backlight of the display as "Servant of Cats" suggested?
