I was unable to power up my 10 year old Mac. What could be wrong?

Welcome!

A little more information would be helpful to our providing more targeted suggestions in this setting where we can neither see nor touch your iMac.

  • Is there any activity at all when you press the power button? Chimes? Fan noises? Optical drive noises? Display turning on?
  • Have you tried a different power cable?
  • When was the last time the computer started normally?
  • Has the computer been stored disconnected from wall power?

Hello, and thanks for responding. No, there is no response at all. The computer has been running without issue for years. It is being used for printing and has software that will only run on this computer which hasn’t been upgraded in years. It was running the night before and in the morning it was found off and unstartable. There is power from the wall outlet and I haven’t had a chance to try another cord. I did change the surge protector but it still won’t start. Both surge protectors also have power. There were thunderstorms in the area, but the printer, also connected to the surge protector is fine. I won’t have a chance to try earlier suggestions to restart until tomorrow.
