Trying to set up new air tag. Where should it show on iPhone?

After you remove the battery tab on the AirTag, and place the tag near your iPhone, it should appear on the phone's Home screen.

I removed the battery tab and the phone gave me a place to name the air tag but after that it seemed to lose connection and I haven’t been able to get the phone to see the air tag again. I tried re-seating the battery and restarting the phone but nothing has worked.
Then it may be possible that you have a defective AirTag. As such, you have 14 days from the purchase date to return it for either a full refund or a replacement.
I found directions online to reset the air tag and that worked.
