Can I get Notifications on both my Apple Watch and Iphone at the same time when they are both unlocked

Can I get Notifications on both my Apple Watch and Iphone at the same time when they are both unlocked. I read that the way apple designed notifications to work was "one-or-the-other" where I cant get calendar notifications on my iphone and apple watch if my iphone is unlocked.
