There are three major credit bureaus that every major bank uses and they report what is called your FICO (Fair Issac Corporation) score. The three bureaus are Experian, Equifax and TransUnion. Banks may use one, two or all there bureau when evaluating your credit for a loan, mortgage or credit card. There are different scores for each type of loan. Bank evaluating your credit for a credit card typically request a FICO 8, 9 or the new 10 or 10T.

Experian app in the Apple App Store will show you your Experian FICO 8 score for free. TransUnion does not show your show and Equifax charges for a subscription. myFICO shows all three companies score, but charges $40 a month.

Apps like Credit Karma, Credit Sesame and others are free but show a VantageScore 3.0 or 4.0 score. Literally no major bank uses VantageScore for lending decisions. Some smaller local banks may. So, the score you see in Credit Karma is accurate for the scoring model, but vastly different and most not relevant for evaluating you chances of being approved for a credit card, loan or mortgage.

You can request a free credit report from all three credit bureaus from the link below. A credit report will show your past financial history, and other personal information. It’s absolutely free, no subscription to cancel or anything.
