Is there a way to get the play history from a HomePod mini?

I often say 'Hey Siri, play me some music' and I look on my phone if I like a track I don't know. The other day I was busy and I couldn't do that, so I'm just trying to see a history... but I can't.

I followed some older advice (on Mac, top right buttons in iTunes, and the 'listen now' history) neither work - very frustrating! Anyone know if it's possible?

Hey Dylthedog,

Let's see if can help with Apple Music.

You mentioned you look at your iPhone to see what's playing, using your iPhone follow these two steps and see if it helps you locate the song you are looking for. These steps are found in the article Queue up your music on iPhone - Apple Support

See what you’ve recently played
1. Tap the player to open Now Playing.
2. Tap the Queue button, then swipe down to see your playing history.
3. To play a song in the history, tap it. To remove your playing history, tap Clear.

Also, just like getting "Hey Siri" to play your music, if you can't look at the phone when you hear a song playing that you like, you can ask "Hey Siri" to name that tune without having to pick up your iPhone.

Take care!

Hi Dylthedog,

If you've tried swiping down and nothing comes up in the History, let us know if this only happens when you're playing music through HomePod. To test that out, tap the audio icon in the bottom middle of the display and set it to iPhone and test playing some content through the Music app directly through your iPhone speaker. Let us know if you're able to swipe up to see listening history based on what you've played on the iPhone, as that will help us narrow this down.

Cheers!

Hi ryane77,

That works fine - I can also see what I've played in the car using CarPlay and other AIrPlay/bluetooth speakers. However, as soon as I select the HomePod Mini an AirPlay speaker, it hands the stream over to HomePod and I lose all history access. It goes back to the behaviour mentioned above.

I've got voice recognition on, and I'm listed as the main user, so it *should* know it's me when I call up songs directly on the HomePod via Siri, so I can't see it's a privacy related setting. It certainly adds reminders and the like to my AppleID when I ask, so I can't see that it's not recognising my voice.

Cheers!

Hi Dorain1 - thanks for the reply.

However, that does not show any history on my iPhone. It just shows the current track and the next track, no history whatsoever. If I swipe anywhere to try and pull down to access a list, it just minimises back the bar again. When the next track plays, it shifts up to 'playing', a new 'playing next' shows up, no sign of a history list and no way to access what has already played, even for this session.

This is all I get:

I'm on the latest iOS (16.5.1 at the time of posting) and so is my HomePod Mini (16.5).
