Alternative MFA options

I don't want to rely on phone number as 2FA/MFA option. Is there any possibility to use some authenticator app or some hardware device (like Yubikey)?

Huge MFA security problem As of right now, every single device associated with my iCloud Account is listed as a "trusted device" and recieves a verification code any time I try to sign into iCloud. Meaning if I am sitting at my laptop trying to sign in and MFA sends a verification code, my laptop, my old phone, my new phone, my son's iPad, and old iPad all get the same code. Obviously, this kind of defeats the purpose of MFA... How do I set it so only one or two devices are "trusted" and receive verification codes? (as opposed to ALL of them) as is the case now?

Can you use a third party MFA app for Apple's MFA? Can you use a third party MFA app for Apple's MFA? I know that we can set up multiple phone numbers for MFA or use trusted devices but as an organization, we would prefer to use a third party app for each user.

Is there any way to turn off 2FA when I'm working continuously? I work between my phone, macbook and mac ALL THE TIME, yet still have to deal with 2FA at inconvenient times, like when I need to ask a question of the Apple community and I have to log into my apple account. Logging in from my Mac or Macbook or Ipad forces 2FA to my phone, which i don't always have on me. WHAT IS THE POINT? I'm a confirmed user of an apple device just trying to get to the apple community. I really want to ditch 2FA except for financial related matters like the wallet app. How can I do that?
