Similar images but not duplicates

I'm trying to find an image with a pile of logs, taken a year ago. I have new image of the same logs now. Is there a way to search for a similar image in Photos?

Sorry, have you been taking pictures of wooden logs? I thought you meant computer log files.

The duplicate detection in Photos 8 on Ventura will list similar photos as potential duplicates, but there is no "search by example".

If your new photo has GPS coordinates, you could open your recent photo of the pile of logs, to view it enlarged, then click "Show nearby photos" in the details below the enlarged photo. This should show you the older photo.

How did you use Photonator to search for duplicate or near duplicates?

I didn't see any search function is the app. I use the following apps:

I've run tests on the these two apps with the following results and found them to be safe to use:

PowerPhotos - $29.95

PowerPhotos is the iPhoto Library Manager version for Photos and is very powerful. Although more expensive I would recommend it as it has more capabilities than the others like the capability to merge Photos libraries or copy photos, both original and edited versions, along with their metadata between libraries.

PhotoSweeper - $9.99 - Demo version available.

PhotoSweeper compares bitmaps and/or histograms so it can detect duplicate images even if they have different file sizes, file names, image sizes and capture dates.

Either one would do a better job of finding dups and near dups that Photonator, as least what I've been able to do.

Are you asking about Photos for Mac or Photos on an iPhone or iPad?

If all logs are containing a similar text phrase, try to search for a text string - photos can find photos based on the text in the photo.

For example, searching for the text "Universität" found the picture of the mugs with the text "Universität" printed on them:

Look for a common phrase in the pictures of the logs you want to search for and enter it into the search field in Photos, it should work on your iPhone or Mac, if you have the current system version installed and Life Text enabled for Siri.
