Do I have to join Apple Music in order to purchase new music for my ipod?

No. Quite the opposite in fact.


Apple Music is a subscription service, you cannot purchase music through it.


To purchase music, you use the iTunes Store, which is entirely separate to the Apple Music subscription service.
