Mail now fills entire. How to change back so that I can change mail

Mail now fills my entire screen. It did not do this ever before. the screen was a normal size and I coululd change as is done with every panel on a mac

Mac mini, macOS 12.1

To exit the full screen mode (for any application), move the mouse cursor to the top left of the screen and click the green icon :

Follow previous advise - First

Just to add, when an Application is in Full Screen Mode, the ESC key on upper left of Keyboard will also ESCape the Full Screen Mode
