MacBook Pro - Apple Music - iPhone stuck in 'Sync' even though it is neither connected to the Mac nor using the cloud.

MacBook Pro 2023 16-inch, M2 etc.

Ventura 13.4

iPhone 14 Pro

iOS 16.5.1

Hi all,

This happens ALL. THE. TIME.

Why?

What can I do about it?

p.s. Apple Tech Sup't, please don't run me through the usual "restart everything, reinstall everything, etc." line. I used to be in SQA at Apple and I know what I'm doing. This is a bug and you guys need to provide a solid workaround while you're fixing it. I have tried everything you are about to tell me to try, so please think it through first.

Why is my iPhone showing up as 'Syncing'?

IT IS NOT CONNECTED.

IT CANNOT BE EJECTED FROM APPLE MUSIC.

EVERYTHING HAS BEEN RESTARTED MULTIPLE TIMES.

ALL POSSIBLE NETWORK ISSUES HAVE BEEN RULED OUT.

PLEASE GIVE AN ANSWER THAT WORKS, AND THAT YOU KNOW WORKS BECAUSE YOU YOURSELF HAVE PERSONALLY SEEN THIS ISSUE DEMONSTRATED AND SEEN THE FIX YOU PROPOSE WORK IN A REAL-WORLD ENVIRONMENT.

Thanks,

Andrew

Reboot your Mac with the option to reopen closed windows disabled.

Try both with the iPhone connected, and without.

You might also try holding down option+cmd as you launch Music to open it in its safe mode.

Try creating a new empty library and see if that interrupts the current behaviour.

Since you were in SQA at Apple, I assume you know this is a user-to-user forum. No one here (with VERY limited exceptions) works for Apple. We have no insight into software bugs. If you tried everything then there is no other work-around we can suggest. All I can recommend is that you contact Apple Support.
