Split screen zoom

Hi. I want to do a split screen camera comparison. I managed to make the split but how do I zoom in on a specific spot on both halves at the same time? Second question is if it’s possible to display the entire image from both cameras at the same time? I can only do 50-50.

I created the Motion template with size 7680x3840. The drop zones were adjusted so that they fill the frame width.

To ensure that the scale is correct, I would do this (I think it will work but I can’t check now):

In the browser select the images you want to use in the drop zones; in the inspector, change the Spatial Conform to None. This is to ensure that 100% scale is real size. It works this way when you add any clips to the timeline. What I have not tested but believe will work is that it also applies when clips are added to Drop Zones.

It is easy to put two images side by side using the Transform tools in FCP. But if I understand correctly, you then want to scale them up. The problem is not to do it simultaneously, that is easy. The problem is that - assuming I interpreted correctly - you need the each image to not overflow its frame.

You could do that using yhe Crop tool, but if I were to do it, I’d rather create a custom Generator in Motion. I may have a go at making one, if you like, but probably not until late tomorrow evening or may Friday. Let me know if you want me to have a go at it. If I do it, you can use it freely but of course no guarantees.

I was just thinking if you set up rigs for the scale, and X and, Y positions you could move both images simultaneously with just three sliders and keyframe them I believe.

That is an interesting idea. I forgot that the way it is now does not allow one to set keyframes.

A rig may do it, yes. I will have to test. But I am not sure that forcing the two images to scale simultaneously is a good idea, for two reasons: 1) it limits the user choice, at the expense of maybe less work and 2) since images are not necessarily of the same size, some adjustments may be necessary, and I don't see an easy way to do it if they controlled by the same rig. It is certainly worth exploring, even if only just to permit keyframing.

Well, it's 4K on the print screen image, but I will use 8K 7680 x 3840 PreRes 24p when I know how to do this. These are still images and it's for a comparison video on youtube. So I would like to zoom in on both images at the same time. Resolution on the images are 4032 × 3024. I'm using an iMac M1 24". The images are from iPhones and galaxy phones from 12 - 200mp.
