Can numbers be used to generate Workorders?

So I have a template that I made in Numbers, for specifically filling out a work order. For example customer name job type materials used etc. But I am curious can it generate a work order number for example 3999 was the last work order and if I use the template again on a new customer can it change it automatically to 4000 when I open it?

I think if you looked at this from another point of view it would be more useful


make a table where you enter a work order, including the number (which can simply be a formula to add 1 to the rows order number from above) then have the second sheet be the work order form itself

you make the form look back to the table you entered your data into, and use lookup formulas to populate the fields for you.

you type in. Work order number and it “looks” at the table for that number and shows the data you entered.


not sure how complex your work orders are, or how much data you keep for each one, maybe multiple items are listed in a table , but those things can work like this using the work order as the key that joins the different tables together,
