imovie voiceover not working properly in Ventura 13.4.1

I just updated my mac mini computer with the latest version of OS 13.4.1. Now my voiceover does not work in imovie. The microphone selection works and the cursor moves to about 3 seconds before the starting point where the recording should start, as it should, but then it just freezes and doesn't move forward as it did in the previous version. All other factors seem to be working correctly, including microphone, etc. In fact, I could record a slide show in Keynote. So it is not my settings or microphone, etc. I tried quitting and restarting imovie, but that did not help. Anybody else have this problem or know what the solution is?

Confirm that your playhead actually is freezing, rather than movie infinitely slowly through a clip of very long duration. For example, when intending to drag out a photo duration to 10 seconds, sometimes inadvertently one can drag it out to 10 minutes and not notice it if the timeline is contracted to its smallest display.

If the above is not your situation, try deleting preferences. Open iMovie while holding down the Option and Command keys and select to delete preferences in the box that appears. iMovie will open in a new empty library. Reopen your old library to get back to your projects. Possibly you may need to reboot to set the changes. Deleting preferences is a safe procedure that will not cause data loss or disruption to your project.

If still no luck, try creating a new project and see if your voiceover feature works correctly there.

Ok, the first thing I did was to retry in the same project to no avail. I opened a new project (My Movie) and then it worked fine. I opened iMovie while selecting the Option and Command keys as you suggested and deleted the preferences. I retested My Movie that I used for testing and now the cursor froze again like before. I went back to my original project where I had the original problem and that was fixed. The voiceover was working Ok. I then went back to the My Movie (test project) and it worked! It seems to be happening on the project that I open after updating or resetting the preferences. I am not sure why. Thanks for your help!
