Change my Apple ID

Here is guidance from Apple on changing the email address you use for your Apple ID→Apple ID: Changing your Apple ID

I tried changing my Apple ID by following the instructions in that link. I ended up simply adding another email address to my account and it was linked to FaceTime and Messaging. The original email remains as my Apple ID.

When I select Change Apple ID at appleId.apple.com, I am told to enter the new ID so I used the new email address. Then a pop up prompts me to go to AppleId in Settting on one of my devices but does not say what to do when I get there. On my device I still see the original email address tagged as AppleId and my new email address listed below it.

i thought the point of changing Apple ID was to actually delete the old address and link everything to the new address. I am also assuming that any subscriptions and purchases linked to my account will still be in place. I expect I will need to setup Apple Pay and Find My Phone again.

You shouldn’t have to re-setup anything. The account is the same if you do it correctly, it just has a new user ID.
