How do I re enter this password?

Every so often I randomly get this prompt on my iPhone:

Like I said, it happens randomly. Sometimes I get it when using the App Store, this morning it happened after picking the phone up having momentarily set it down.

If I click the “Edit Settings” button it takes me to the settings app in my phone, but I don’t know where to go from there.

Yesterday I got the message and thought it was referring to my email account in Microsoft Outlook so I deleted the account from Outlook and added it again but it didn’t work (I know there is no issue with my Microsoft account because it works fine on a Windows based device).

My next step would be a full reset of the phone but I don’t want to do that so I came here for help first!

Anyone have any ideas?

Hi DoubleOhSammy,

We appreciate you reaching out to us.

We’d like to gather additional details that may help us be in a better position to assist you.

  1. When you deleted the account, did the prompt stop appearing?
  2. Do you have other mail accounts on your device? If yes, are you getting prompts for you other accounts?

In the meantime, let’s check for a software update and make sure that you are running the latest version of iOS.

While it isn't inherently assured that an update will resolve the issue, updating to the latest software version for your device can help isolate potential software issues.

Kindly secure a backup and update.

  2. Update your iPhone or iPad - Apple Support

If possible, test if you will experience the issue on a different Wi-Fi network.

Take care!

Hi,

I am not sure if deleting the account stopped the prompt, as I added it again straight away - I need email on my phone so I can't remove it permanently.

I also checked and I am running the latest version of iOS.

To be honest I just need someone to tell me where I can go in iOS to get a list of account passwords so I can make sure the password is up to date. I know in Android you can go into Settings and then Accounts, but I can't find a similar section in iOS.

OK, so I contacted Apple support. I went through their online web chat option.

After we established that I had deleted the account from the Outlook app and added it back, the advisor asked if I also use the account for contacts, and then told me to go into Settings > Contacts > Accounts. My Outlook account was listed there and it had a message saying "Account is not authenticated" and "Re-Enter Password". I tapped Re-Enter password and then signed in to my Outlook account again. The message about not being authenticated then disappeared. Hopefully that has done the trick.
