How do I get my phone updated it states updates tonight?
It appears my phone needs to be updated with new things and I get a text that it’s going to take place in the evening but it doesn’t seem to happen?

Are you leaving the phone connected to the charger all night? If not, give that a try for a few nights and make sure that the phone is getting a good Wi-Fi signal from your router.
Actually, it is great practice to leave the phone connected to the charger all night every night anyway.
