No balance slider for sound

I just bought a Studio Display and connected it to my Mac Studio.  Everything seems to be working, except one small thing.  I cannot find the balance slider to adjust the sound level between the left and the right speakers.  I have a greater hearing loss in one ear than the other, so I normally adjust the balance to be off-center.  I'm running Ventura (13.4.1), and a firmware update was installed on the display.

Is this expected behavior?  Is there a solution?

Thanks.

I have the same problem.

Sound through my iMac can be balanced - System Settings>Sound and at the bottom of settings is a Balance Slider.

Once I route sound through the Studio Display speakers the Balance Slider disappears. I am connecting with the Apple provided cable via a Thunderbolt port.

Have you found a solution since you posted in July?

No, I haven't found a solution. I have upgraded to Sonoma (14.1) since July, but I don't think there has been another display firmware upgrade since then (currently running 67.1). FYI, the Studio Display firmware version is displayed in System Report -- mine is running on "Thunderbolt/USB4 Bus2". My Link Controller firmware version is 1.45.0.

If you have any information to share or have found other places where this issue has been discussed, I'd be interested to know about that.

No, sorry, nothing different.

I'm on Sonoma 14.0 but all other settings are the same.

The Apple chap I spoke to indicated output through the Display is 8-channel sound [spatial audio?] so it is not simple to manage stereo balance. I got the impression it was controlled by the Display OS and macOS automatically. May be a high-end software package could access the sound features and give full control.

The in-built Apple Audio MIDI Setup app doesn't allow any tinkering with balance -you can just test each channel and see where the sound comes out. I have given this one up.

I'm sitting slightly left of centre of the Display, Ha, Ha!

[still the best sound I've heard from a computer monitor screen]
