Why won’t my Mac turn on?

I was using my MacBook Air and it turned off. Now I can’t get it to turn back on.

MacBook Air 13″, macOS 11.6

There are a few ways you can check if you can fix this by yourself

From this Apple support article: If your Mac doesn't turn on - Apple Support

First, check the Power Connections to your MacBook

Make sure that your power cable is undamaged and plugged securely into your Mac and a working electrical outlet.

If your Mac has no built-in display, make sure that your external display is connected to power, connected to your Mac, and turned on.

After that, press and hold the power button

Press and hold the power button on your Mac for about 10 seconds. (Every Mac has a power button. On laptop computers that have Touch ID, press and hold Touch ID.)

Then press and release the power button normally.

Make sure to unplug all of your accessoires Before proceeding

If you're using an older, Intel-based Mac, resetting the SMC might help:

Reset the SMC

If your Mac seems to be turned on but the screen remains blank, the issue could be software related, see this steps to see if you can fix this issue

Try to start up from Macos recovery first. The steps you will need to follow differ wether you have a mac with Apple silicon (M processor series) or an Intel mac

Apple silicon

  1. Press and hold the power button for about 10 seconds until you see the startup options window, which includes a gear icon labelled Options. Select Options, then click Continue.
  2. If the startup options window never appears, release the power button, then repeat step 1.

Intel processor

  1. Press and hold the power button for about 10 seconds.
  2. Press and release the power button, then press and hold Command (⌘)-R immediately until you see an Apple logo or other image.

sk Utility, then click Continue and follow the steps in this article:

Use Disk Utility to repair your startup disk

If Disk Utility hasn't found any errors, reinstall macOS.

If Disk Utility has found errors and repaired them, restart your Mac. If the issue returns after you've restarted your Mac, reinstall macOS.
