Connecting apple monitor to windows laptop

How can I connect my windows 10 laptop to the apple monitor A1407, with HDMI cable? I connected them but it doesn’t work!

A1407 is the 27-inch Apple Thunderbolt Display. It's expecting Thunderbolt input, on an old-style TB connector. Correct me if I'm wrong, but I believe that – for this monitor – some of the controls that you usually find on a monitor can only be set using software on the attached computer, which could be a problem if that computer isn't a Mac.


It sounds like the cable you have is a Mini DisplayPort to HDMI cable that converts Mini DisplayPort output from a computer to HDMI for a monitor. It wouldn't generate Thunderbolt output under any circumstances.
