Voice texting no longer works in Apple Carplay

Hello,

Need help and I am perplexed. I have an iphone13 Pro. The ios is fully up to date and all apps are up to date. I have a 2020 Honda Accord, and connect to Apple CarPlay with a USB cable. I am using a brand new USB cable to avoid that as part of the problem. I connect to Apple CarPlay with no problems, and every single feature works except for texting. When I get a text message, I push the touch screen, and the apple Carplay makes it seem like it is trying to play the text message, but no sound actually comes out. When I try to send a voice text message, I push the button on the screen for the contact I want to send a text to, the little microphone logo comes up, but nothing at all happens. It just doesn't work. This is a brand new problem that just started within the past couple of weeks. The same problem exists on my wife's phone. The problem only exists in this car. In the other car we have with Apple Carplay there is no problem at all. The firmware for the car is fully updated and current. The car audio works fine on the iphone with Waze, google maps, phone calls, spotify, etc... Texting is a hard no, and I cannot figure it out. Anybody able to help?

Hi MikeH97,

Thanks for posting in Apple Support Communities.

We understand that you're not hearing sound when having message read to your when connected to your car. To address this behavior, Apple has steps in If you need help with CarPlay - Apple Support to address CarPlay not working as it's supposed to.

First, make sure that your country or region supports CarPlay and that your car supports CarPlay. If you're unsure if your car supports CarPlay, contact the vehicle manufacturer.
Make sure that your iPhone has the latest version of iOS. If your iPhone is updated to the latest version of iOS, follow these steps—checking CarPlay after each step:
1. Check your connection to your CarPlay stereo:
* If you have a wired connection, try connecting again with a different USB cable to a different USB port if you have one.
* If you have a wireless connection, make sure that Bluetooth is turned on on your iPhone under Settings > Bluetooth. Then go to Settings > Wi-Fi, and make sure that Wi-Fi is also turned on. Tap the CarPlay network, and check that Auto-Join is turned on.
4. If CarPlay doesn't activate automatically, look for the CarPlay logo on your car's display and select it.
5. Restart your iPhone and your car.
6. Make sure that Siri is on.
7. If your iPhone isn't detected by CarPlay, make sure that CarPlay isn't restricted. Go to Settings > Screen Time > Content & Privacy Restrictions. If Content & Privacy Restrictions is on, tap Allowed Apps, and make sure that CarPlay is enabled.
8. Go to Settings > General > CarPlay, tap your car, then tap Forget This Car. Then set up CarPlay again.
9. Make sure that your CarPlay stereo is using the latest firmware from the car manufacturer. Check your car's manual for more information.
If you still have issues connecting to CarPlay, contact Apple Support.
