My iPad has stopped backing up automatically. Thoughts?

Does anybody know why my iPad has stopped backing up automatically? I get a message every two weeks telling me to back up.

Are you unable to backup to iCloud at all - or are you experiencing difficulty with automatic backup to iCloud?

When initially enabling iCloud backup, the automatic backup process won’t run until you have manually triggered an initial backup from iPad settings:

Settings > [Your Name / AppleID] > iCloud > iCloud Backup >

  • Backup This iPad - set to ON
  • Backup Now

After the initial backup, the next automatic backup should run when these conditions are met:

  • 24hrs or more have elapsed since the last backup
  • the iPad is connected to its Power Adapter
  • the iPad is connected to WiFi
  • the iPad is locked
