MAC MINI M1 with USB -> RS-232 serial cable connected. However, /dev does not show the device. how can this be?

Hello all,

My hardware report shows the the USB serial controller and meta data

USB-Serial Controller :

 Product ID: 0x23a3

Vendor ID: 0x067b (Prolific Technology, Inc.)

 Version: 6.05

 Serial Number: CHAIb11BS14

 Speed: Up to 12 Mb/s

 Manufacturer: Prolific Technology Inc.

 Location ID: 0x02200000 / 1

 Current Available (mA): 500

 Current Required (mA): 100

However, $ls /dev/*** does not reveal the expected device. Why not? is the question.

First Rudegar thank you so much. You and I are on the same page. That was in fact the first thing I checked. The manufacture driver is only for Mac OS on x86 architecture. Second Servant of Cats, what a fine handle, but more importantly, as it turns out M1 and newer Macs already have what is called Future Technology Devices International, or FTDI drivers built in to the firmware, (could be the OS we'll let Apple confirm), and as such all I needed to do is order a new cable for $20 delivered from Amazon. This one is an OKIWAN cable. As SOON as plugged in, problem resolved:

USB Serial Converter:

 Product ID: 0x6001

Vendor ID: 0x0403 (Future Technology Devices International Limited)

 Version: 6.00

 Serial Number: FTDE0KNF

 Speed: Up to 12 Mb/s

 Manufacturer: FTDI

 Location ID: 0x02200000 / 7

 Current Available (mA): 500

 Current Required (mA): 44

 Extra Operating Current (mA): 0

Not a common issue, but nevertheless if we've helped anyone else avoid the research to resolve, I'm glad.

Thanks agian,

Carl
