Safari 4.0.5 QTCF.dll

Hi,,

I will give you all information in this first post so it is easier 😉

I have Safari 4.0.5 (531.22.7) And every time i open it up, after a few seconds it errors, 2 times, both with exactly the same text in error dialouge, one straight after the other. The exact text of the error box is:

This application failed to start because QTCF.dll was not found. Re-installing the application may fix this problem.

And i have already tried this. doesnt work, i get the same error(s).

but after the 2 errors, safari does open.. but after roughly 5 mins,, it crashes.. and says Safari has stopped working, close program.. (it has took a few attempts to post this) -.-

My coumpter Specs are:

AMD Turion II X2 M500 2.2GHz
4GB Ram
Windows 7 Home premium
64-bit
ATI Radeon HD 4200

,
I have looked in control panel at the 'Review Problem Reports'
Safari has.... 48.
The summary on them all is Stopped Working
They all seem to be different 😟 Heres the 3 that are most occouring :

This application failed to start because QTCF.dll was not found. Re-installing the application may fix this problem.

Unusual ... that's actually a QuickTime dll rather than a Safari or Apple Application Support dll.

Is your QuickTime Player currently launching? If not, do you get the same error message when launching that, too?

I have just launched QuickTime several times, but no error? There is an update, version 7.6.7 Do you think upgrading will restore all dll's that are missing?

Edit: The DLL is not present in System32, nor C:\Program Files (x86)\QuickTime\ or any of the subdirectories.

If the download using Apple Software Update hasn't been working, let's try using an installer from the Apple web site. Get the version of the installer that doesn't mention iTunes (the file you download should be a QuickTimeInstaller.exe rather than an iTunesSetup.exe):

http://www.apple.com/quicktime/download/

If you get an error message downloading the installer that way, let us know what that one says too.

Not the same dll, but same error message.

For me it turned out to be that Safari (and iTunes) needed to run with Administrator Privileges. This I set by right click on the desktop launch short-cut and launched the properties window, then in the compatibility tab selecting the "run this as an administrator box.

Windows 7 asks me to confirm that I want it to run at this level (iaw my settings).

Both iTunes and Safari then run OK!
