MacBook Air M2 - overnight battery drain

Bought a refurbished M2 at a local store 3 weeks ago - ans so far so good. Until last night....

Left the MacBook at the hotel room (unplugged)with the battery almost fully charged (90%).

This morning the M2 was dead and I was not able to wake it up. Had to plug in the charger and was able to bring it back to life, but the battery was at 0 %.

Last night only Apple Music was used with a remote bluetooth speaker. This app was closed when we left and as far as I know no other apps were open.

The local shop has a 50 days return policy. Would appreciate some advice here, should I return it or could this be once in a lifetime incident?

Thanks.

Had you closed the lid of the MacBook? If not, it could be that the MacBook did not enter sleep mode and hence the battery drain. Also check this to see if your sleep/wake settings are good

  1. On your Mac, choose Apple menu  > System Settings, then click Energy Saver  in the sidebar. (You may need to scroll down.)
  2. Do any of the following:
    • Put hard disks to sleep: Turn on Put hard disks to sleep when possible on the right.
  • Update your system while it’s asleep: Turn on Enable Power Nap on the right.
  • Allow your Mac to wake briefly so users can access shared services (if applicable): Turn on Wake for network access on the right.
