Apple ID with a @gmail.com domain

I created my Apple ID with my first iPod using a @gmail.com mail address which is still my current one. Could anybody tell me if not having an iCloud.com based apple id, may create issues in using some functionalities?

Hi MMV59,

It's perfectly fine to use an @gmail.com email address as your Apple ID. As mentioned in the article with steps on creating an Apple ID you can use your current email address or get a free iCloud email address. Find that information below and in the article here: How to create a new Apple ID - Apple Support

"Create your Apple ID when you set up your device

  1. Tap "Forgot password or don't have an Apple ID?"
  2. Tap Create a Free Apple ID.
  3. Create an Apple ID when setting up a new iPhone
  4. Select your birthday and enter your name. Tap Next.
  5. Tap "Use your current email address," or tap "Get a free iCloud email address."
  6. Follow the onscreen steps to verify your email address, create a strong password, set your device region, and set up two-factor authentication. If you choose to skip this step, you'll be prompted to do this later in Settings."
