I have to force restart my iPad every time I want to use the USB-C port for charging or connecting

Recently, I have discovered an issue with my iPad.

It seems like I couldn't charge my iPad with the charger that does work before, I couldn't connect my iPad to my Windows PC, and I couldn't connect my USB flash drive to my iPad (let alone a USB mouse). I remember when I noticed that I can't charge my iPad, and then I know that this problem can always be fixed by force restarting my iPad, which actually works every single time. Now, I realized that I can make my iPad connect to my computer by force restarting my iPad. However, my iPad still couldn't connect to my USB flash drive and the USB mouse.

So the problem I have with my iPad is that every time I want to charge my device and/or connect it to my computer, I have to force restart in order for that to work, which is getting annoying. Plus, I couldn't use USB flash drives and USB accessories, which they have all worked for me prior to this.

I want to be more specific about the things I've talked about before. I'm using the 11 inch iPad Pro from 2021 (the one with the M1 chip) running iPadOS 16.5.1. All the USB flash drives I tried with my iPad Pro are formatted as FAT32. And I use Google's 18W power brick to charge my iPad (since I lost my original iPad charger).

I have a strong suspicion that this is a software issue (likely the back-end server) because, like I said before, I have to force restart my iPad in order to either charge it or connect it to my computer, so the charging part isn't completely unusable.

Hey, I have the same problem. Happened once a couple of months back. A Genius Bar guy said it was a common issue caused by a bug. Started happening again for me this week, now after three charges in a row.

I tried a different USB-C cable, same result. Have to force restart my iPad for it to charge. So it's not the charging brick or the charging wire. Again, it's likely that the problem is a result of a software issue.

Again, contact Apple Support.

Whether the trigger here is software or hardware is to be determined.

If it is software, it’s not something that’s been widely posted. Generic problems get endemic posts.
