Syncing Books from MacBook to iPhone

I have a problem syncing a Book on my MacBook Pro to my iPhone 14 Pro Max. This is a book that I ripped from a CD. It consists of 40 .mp3 files. When I sync it using Finder (through a USB cable) it will only transfer about 36 of the files. By selecting only the missing files and re-syncing several times, I can get 39 of the files but that last one just will not go. I've tried disconnecting/reconnecting the iPhone, restarting Finder, deleting the book and starting over, and each time I get about the same results. Other books transferred in full.

I would also like to know how Finder generates the list of books to sync. I have books in various file folders, but none are in my Books app Library.

All of my file & library structure was set up way back when all I had was an iPhone 4 and iTunes for Windows. I've solved the problem by deleting the books from the Music library on my MacBook, adding them to the Books App library and then re-syncing.

But it still bothers me that the 40 .mp3 files that make up this particular book did not all sync. How many other files am I missing? I've got more work to do making sure I've got the same set of ~3500 files on all my devices: MacBook, PC, iPhone and an external hard drive.

Thanks

Thanks for posting in the Apple Support Communities volkl,

The below steps are the recommended method of syncing books from your Mac to iPhone:

Sync audiobooks to your device
1: Connect your device to your Mac.
You can connect your device using a USB or USB-C cable or using a Wi-Fi connection. See Sync content between your Mac and iPhone, iPad, or iPod touch over Wi-Fi.
2: In the Finder  on your Mac, select the device in the Finder sidebar.
A device selected in the Finder sidebar.
If you connect your device to your Mac using a USB cable and don’t see the device in the Finder sidebar, see If your device doesn’t appear in the sidebar

3: Click Audiobooks in the button bar.
The button bar showing Audiobooks selected.
4: Select the “Sync audiobooks onto [device name]” checkbox to turn on syncing of your audiobooks.
With the checkbox selected, syncing is set to transfer all your audiobooks to your device.
The “Sync audiobooks onto [device]" checkbox is selected. Below that, “All audiobooks” is selected to the right of Sync, above “Selected audiobook
5: To sync a selection of audiobooks, click “Selected audiobooks.”
6: Select the checkboxes for the individual audiobooks you want to sync in the Audiobooks list. Deselect the checkbox for any audiobooks you don’t want to sync.
7: When you’re ready to sync, click Apply.

You can choose to sync your Mac and your device automatically whenever you connect them. See Turn automatic syncing on or off on Mac.
Before disconnecting your device from your Mac, click the Eject button  in the Finder sidebar.
