It's BAAAAACK - Mac Messages app unable to send to Android users

Ventura 13.4.1 MBP, 16.5.1 iPhone

within the past couple weeks, I've lost the ability to send texts to android uses from my Mac. The green "sending" progress bar jumps to about 90%, stops, then the send fails after a few minutes.

iPhone Text Message Forwarding is enabled for this system, and I'm able to send/receive successfully from similarly configured Macs in my household. I think this absolves my phone and iCloud settings, and makes me suspect I've missed some fragile configuration setting on this particular Mac.

In searching this (and other) forums on this problem, there seems to be flurry of reports every so often, as system SW, iCloud authentication preferences, et al move forward - makes it a bear to diagnose.

Appreciate any advice out there - thanks in advance.

No configuration problems on the iPhone side.

I suspect it was some sort of stale credentials problem on my Mac. I logged out of my Apple ID and then logged back in - problem solved. This also fixed a separate issue where I wasn't able to log in using my Apple Watch - also resolved by log out/log in cycle.

Thanks for reaching out d.s.cobb,

It sounds like you're having some trouble with forwarding SMS messages between your Mac and iPhone. We can help.

Before we get started, keep in mind that "to receive and send SMS and MMS messages on your Mac, your iPhone must have iOS 8.1 or later, and your iPhone and Mac must be signed in to iMessage using the same Apple ID. See the Apple Support article Use Continuity to connect your Mac, iPhone, iPad, and Apple Watch."

You can check out these steps to Set up iPhone to get SMS messages on Mac:

1. On your iPhone, go to Settings > Messages.
2. Tap Text Message Forwarding.
3. Note: If you don’t see Text Message Forwarding, make sure you’re signed in to iMessage using the same Apple ID on both your iPhone and your Mac.
4. Turn on your Mac in the list of devices.
5. If you’re not using two-factor authentication, a six-digit activation code appears on your Mac; enter this code on your iPhone, then tap Allow.

Hope that helps.

Take care.
