CF Card (or reader?) not working with Ventura/2019 MacBook Pro

I'm attempting to read two new SanDisk Extreme CF cards on my 2019 MacBook Pro (macOS Ventura 13.4.1) using a new EBS All-in-1 Reader. A friend is coming over later with his Windows laptop just so I can test the cards/reader on another device. It's been a while since I've plugged a CF reader into this MacBook but I've not had a problem in the past, even with the most generic card readers. I just started shooting a music video this weekend and even though neither of these cards contain my master shots, they were used to catch critical angles for the sequence we were shooting. When I pop the CF cards back into either of my Canon C300's (where the media was recorded) my files are present and appear to playback normally, regardless of which card goes into which camera. The SD cards used in my Sony FS5M2 and my other peripherals all read normally on my MacBook, so it seems to me that the problem lies in the OS, the reader, and/or the CF cards. I would have attempted a wired connection between the C300's and the MacBook, but my USB cables for the cameras seem to have grown legs and walked away (Grrr!). I've seen threads from before the Ventura 13.4.1 update indicating that this may be an OS Ventura issue, but nothing addressing this problem since that 13.4.1 update. Has anyone encountered this issue recently? Any guidance, suggestions, and/or work-arounds?

Check the "Allow Accessories to Connect" System Setting in the "Security & Privacy" section. The system default is to prompt the user to confirm if it is Ok to access a device when first connected. Change this setting to "Automatically when unlocked" or "Always" for testing (the former is safer than the latter).

Have you tried rebooting the laptop?

Does the card reader require any macOS drivers to be installed? Check the manufacturer's documentation. If no special drivers are needed, then try booting into Safe Mode to see if the card reader works.

Do you see the card reader's physical hardware information in the Apple System Profiler? If connecting using USB, then look under the USB section. The System Profiler can be accessed by Option-clicking the Apple menu and selecting the first option.

Are you running any anti-virus apps, cleaning/optimizer apps, or third party security software? If so, then they may be causing the problem. Uninstall any such apps by following the developer's instructions.
