Apple Mail SmartMailbox shows a number after it but it is not correct.

Apple Mail in Ventura on my MacMini - SmartMailbox that is coded to only show unread emails shows I have some to read but there is none. I have made sure that all my emails have been read. How do I reset this counter?

Message Count in Apple Mail Way Off I am on an M2 Macbook Pro with Ventura 13.2.1. My inbox count shows that I have 9,223,372,036,854,775,350 messages with 29 unread. My inbox pulls in emails from my work and from gmail. When I click on either inbox separately, I get the correct count and then when I go back to the collective inbox, it also shows the correct count. Sometime later (and I can't identify doing anything out of the ordinary) the count goes back up to the insanely huge number again. Unread Message Count in Mail is Wrong for "Smart" Mailboxes The unread message count for some of my "Smart" Mailboxes in Apple Mail is incorrect. I see that Mail users have been reporting this problem for several years. As per this thread, I have tried deleting all of the "Envelope" files in ~/Library/Mail/V10/MailData, which did not fix the problem but did delete all of my Contacts groups and caused all of my emails be downloaded again, creating duplicates of everything and a huge mess. I have also tried Safe Mode, and I still had the problem in that mode.

Mac mail says I have an unread email in the Unread smart mailbox, but I don't. No mailbox shows a count of unread mail except "Unread" which remains stubbornly on 1. I've rebuilt the smart mailbox for Unread and my All inBoxes.

Select ALL mailboxes in the side pane and use the Mailbox ➙ Rebuild menu option. Let it run for about 10 minutes. That should cleanup the problem.
