iPhone not downloading pictures in emails

I have an iPhone 11 that is running iOS 16.5.1. Recently it has stopped downloading photos in emails - I just get a "winmail.dat" file. I have tried absolutely every fix I can find, but the problem persists. I have plenty of Cloud storage, I have reset network settings, I have turned iMessage off and then back on, everything. I have tried sending test photos to my own email (on my PC) to see if the photos will come through on emails I open with my iPhone, but they do not. I can access the "Sent" mail folder with my iPhone and the photo I sent is there, but it is not on the email in the Inbox.

I am at my wits' end. I need some help getting this resolved.

Hello SaminBR,

It looks like you have done some solid troubleshooting so far.

The one thing we are not seeing is if there is any storage room available on the iPhone itself for these photos. Tap on Settings > General > iPhone Storage. You should see how much device storage is being used.

It is a good idea to have at least 1GB of free space for the iPhone to use. More about that can be found here: If your iPhone or iPad is running slow - Apple Support

If needed, here is an explanation of What's the difference between device storage and iCloud storage? - Apple Support.

Cheers.

Thanks for getting back to us SaminBR,

Based on the total size of storage you mentioned (5GB) it appears you have checked your iCloud storage, not your iPhone storage directly. It is the iPhone storage, not the iCloud, that would impact your ability to view these pictures, if it's the storage causing the issue. Please head into Settings > General > iPhone Storage and let us know what it shows there next.

Best!
