I can open an MPEG in Apple tv but if try with other apps apparently it cannot be opened because its from an unidentified developer. *****

Cheers. VLC and even Qtime. I created the MPEG a couple of years ago so its totally daft.
You may have used a codec that is no longer supported. You can see if HandBrake can convert it.
