I need a new Mac
My iMac is now ten years old. I need to replace it. I see that the new iMacs only have a 24-inch display. That's smaller than the display on my old iMac. I wat to have something with a similar display size. What should I get?

What system are you currently running? If it's a system before Catalina you'll have to replace all of your 32 bit apps with their 64 bit counterparts or an alternative 64 bit app.
If that's the case download and run the free GO64 app to see his of your apps will not run in a 64 bit environment.
If Apple doesn't offer a 27" iMac this fall I'm going the Mini M2 with a 27 or 32 " Samsung monitor.
You can get a Mac mini and buy any size monitor you want.
But don't automatically discount the 24" models. We have 27" iMacs, but we really liked the screen size on the 24" models at the Apple Store. My wife especially likes 27" but would live quite nicely she says with one a but smaller.
The problem is Apple has released no definite plans on 27" or larger. 30" is rumored in some circles but rumors are cheap and plentiful.
Thanks. I was thinking Mini + a 32-inch Samsung monitor. For the work I do, I really need a large display. Even the 27-inch feels cramped sometimes. I've had it for 10 years, and really paid no attention to what Apple was selling or making in the past decade, so I was really shocked to see I couldn't just get a new iMac at the same size.
I was also thinking about a laptop + a large display, but the Mini seems like it might be the better choice for what I need.
It's just helpful to hear from others as I try to decide.
I purchased an anti-glare LG 32UN880-B 4K UltraFine with Ergo arm for $700 in Nov 2020. Originally hooked up to a M1 Mac mini, and now an M2 Mac mini Pro with 1TB and 32GB Ram.
I have a 2020 27-in Core i7 iMac in the other room and this LG display is simply beautiful. There are some downsides such as manual joystick for onscreen controls, and no keyboard audio control over the Belkin High Speed 4K HDR HDMI 2.1 cable connection. I don't adjust the display and keyboard audio controls work with Bluetooth headphones or speaker, so no big deal.
If I were shopping for an LG display now, I would be looking for the galvanic touch controls on the side of the display that trigger onscreen panels. Display speaker control via the keyboard would be nice. When I screen share my 27-in iMac to this 32-in display, the resulting iMac window is about 2/3 the size of the LG display.
The closest equivalent to a 27" 5K Retina iMac would be a M2 Pro Mac Mini, or M2 Max Mac Studio, with a 27" 5K Apple Studio Display. Unfortunately, that display costs nearly as much as entry-level 27" 5K iMacs (that included the entire computer) once did. There is a 27" 5K UltraFine display from LG, and I believe there is a 27" 5K display coming out from Samsung, but those displays are also expensive.
If you're looking for 27" 2560x1440 monitors, or 27" – 32" 3840x2160 monitors, there are many choices in those.
Hello
The only latest iMac on the market now directly from Apple is the 24” that you said before, which starts from $1,299.
There is also the Mac Studio display which is 27”, but it is more expensive than the iMac (starting at $1,599), but keep in mind that it is just the display. You would have to by a Mac to hook up to the display, like the Mac mini (which starts at $599). Total for that bundle is substantially more than the iMac.
If you are looking for an all-Apple workspace go with the 24” iMac. It’s not that much of a screen size difference, and it has some serious bang for its buck. Or, you could buy a Mac without the display (like the least expensive Mac mini), and buy any kind of display you want for probably less than the iMac. Something to think about.
Hope this helps.
FWIW, one of the contributors here is using an M2 Mac mini with an LG 32" monitor and is pleased as punch. 😎
Yes I am… 😎
See? Told you. 🙂
Thanks. I think that's the route I'll go too.
You're welcome. Maybe Viking will share the model of the LG he purchased.
Thanks. That helps to know.
Thanks. Good info.
Monterey.
I think I'm going to go that route too: Mini M2 and 32" Samsung monitor.
Thanks. After looking everything over, I went ahead and ordered a Mini and a Samsung Monitor.
