Scratches on Display Coating Even After Impeccable Care, Using Apple Polishing Cloth

I will echo what some others have said on this forum but want to add my voice to the mix. Apple really needs to up their game when it comes to quality control on these displays. There is debris around the edges of the display glass thanks to a gap between the display glass and the rubber seal. My display also has minor scratches and "artifacts" (some have referred to this as "pixie dust"). I am incredibly OCD about my Apple devices and often joke with people how my display has to be perfectly clean, so I only use the overpriced Apple-branded cloth to clean my screens. I don't even like a speck of dust on my keyboard. Anyway, it is reasonable to think that my pricey 16" MBP should not have such problems when my Dell laptop display is free from such defects, not to mention older versions of the MacBooks. Maybe Apple needs to offer a matte option, or go back to glass without these **** coatings that so easily scratch?

Then, all of this begs the question. Is Apple going to do something about this? I can only assume this screen is going to get worse over time, and surely after my AppleCare® warranty has expired. What really ****** me off is that having to replace these screens has a cost for the environment as we know these don't get recycled, and if Apple says they do, I'm not sure those claims are credible.

Not sure how other people feel about these new MacBook models. I LOVE the new design and am so so happy they are not OBSESSED about thinness and brought back MagSafe®, HDMI, etc. They have so many things right here. The durability of these screens is really the only thing left that I can complain about.

Even with the softness of a cloths, too vigorous cleaning and/or too often can cause damage. Not every cloth is all that clean after a few uses, particles that come to rest on the screen can be abrasive and so forth and so on.

A few dust particles here and there are far better than scrubbing the finish off.

Yes, thank you. I have considered this when cleaning my screens. I do wash my cleaning cloths pretty frequently and could probably do that more often. I do see a difference between this screen and others that I've cleaned in the same way, so Apple's coatings seem a little more prone to scratching. Plus we're seeing a number of other complaints on the forums. But yes, I know what you're saying and I appreciate it. When there is an accumulation of dust, I lightly brush it off or blow it off. When I see smudges, I use my fancy smudge-busting Apple cloth and NO solvents. In fact, I literally breathe on my screen and use the vapour to clean it.

Anyway, I will do my best to be gentle with this thing and take extra care to ensure the cloth I'm using doesn't have debris that might cause scratching.

Thank you!
