We want to clarify one point on what you're experiencing - are you saying that your AirPods are disconnecting from your device while they are inside of the charging case and you close it? Or are the AirPods in use, or just outside the case, and they disconnect when you close the lid on an empty charging case? The reason we ask is that if the AirPods are disconnecting when inside the charging case and you close the lid, that would be considered expected behavior. They will stay paired with your device but will disconnect as they are not in use while inside the charging case.

However, if the AirPods are disconnecting when you close the lid on the empty charging case, it sounds like that would be unexpected behavior. In that case, you can try resetting your AirPods and reconnecting them to see if that may help. Resetting your AirPods can be seen as effectively "refreshing" that connection.
