How to delete undelivered audio message

You should be able to tap the gray X on the left side of the recording in Messages to delete an unsend audio message:

* Record and review a message before sending: Tap  to record, then tap it again to stop recording. Tap  to review, then tap  to send the recording or  to cancel.

If the message was sent and not delivered, you should be able to press and hold on the message to give a pop-up menu. When this comes up tap on More, and then you should be able to select the message in question, then tap the delete button in the lower left corner. I have a similar question — if I send an iMessage to a new number and undo send the message before it shows delivered, will the other person ever receive a notification or will they see the number in their messages with the “undo send” message? I’m not sure if this is important but their phone is off as well.
