The process is different depending on if it is the passcode or password.

If you forgot your passcode and know your password, you can follow this:

If you see an iPhone or iPad unavailable message or Security Lockout screen - Apple Support

If that does not work for resetting your passcode, then you will have to follow this using a computer:
