1x data service

When I return to town from a rural area with limited or no cellular or data coverage my phone (13 Pro, OS 16.5.1) will grab the first tower it can find, resulting in my having 1-4 bars of 1x service. Even after I'm in an area in which GOOD LTE or 5G service is available, it will NOT switch to the higher quality data service. Turning the device on airplane mode, and then back on after a bit will cause it to refresh and connect to better service, but this is obviously NOT an opiton while driving!

Question: How can I prevent this? Is there an option to block connection to 1x data service anywhere?
