cellular data sharing

My mother was at a hotel and within minutes all her cellular data was taken somehow. Her connection sharing was turned off but we see anyway that somehow data was used for sharing connection. 1.7 go within minutes. How can this be? She wasn’t connected to anything. She wasn’t even using her iPhone.

Knowing the Wi-Fi address doesn’t help much. What other devices do you have with you? Remember that by default any Apple device uses a “fake” Wi-Fi address to prevent tracking unless you turn off Private Address, so most likely some other device you have with you connected to the personal hotspot. If it connected without prompting that means the device has the same Apple ID as the iPhone that has the personal hotspot; any other device would need the personal hotspot Wi-Fi password.
