Photos library - Run out of space on Macbook

My photos library has outgrown the size of my hard drive on my 2018 MacBook Pro (can not upgrade the drive as the SSD is soldered)

I am wondering what my options might be to move the library to a bigger drive or network attached storage?

I currently have a Synology NAS that I store files on and use for Time Machine backups and have lots of availability space on it. Is it maybe possible to move the library there? Or should I be looking at a USB hard drive?

Just not sure what my options might be, any input would be greatly appreciated.

Your option is simple: a usb or thunderbolt hard drive, formatted Mac OS X Extended, Journaled or apfs.

Your Photos library cannot be on a NAS. The disk formats on the NAS are inappropriate for the Library, plus it needs to be on directly attached storage not on a network share. Having in there risks database corruption and consequent dataloss.
