Calling through email

With having an Apple device and having FaceTime activated through your Apple ID, you can contact another user through either their Apple ID email address or phone number via FaceTime. Please keep in mind in order to contact someone with their phone number that user needs to ensure that the number is activated and ready to use with the associated Apple ID for FaceTime. If the person you're trying to call has an iPhone with FaceTime set up, and you only know their email address and not their phone number, you can call them with a FaceTime Audio Call. Their email address will need to be the one that is linked to their Apple ID.

Calling via FaceTime Audio Call will allow you to call using only their email address using the FaceTime app, but it won't use the camera - it will just be like a regular call. If you add them to your contacts app, you can initiate the call from the contact apps on your phone, computer, or iPad. Or the easiest way is to say "Hey Siri, FaceTime Audio Call [Contact's Name]"
