Apple address book

Sometimes a name gets highlighted in blue in my Apple Address Book. It seems to be impossible to erase or make the highlight go away. What to do?

Also, sometimes I try to enter a new person in my Apple Address Book, and when the last name is the same as some previous entry (when the new entry is a daughter, or husband etc.), as soon as the software recognizes that last name it reverts to the previous entry. This is really maddening, and I can't seem to find a way around it.

Some help would be appreciated. I'm running the following: Apple MacBookPro with Ventura 13.4.1 and an iPhone 14. LMK, thanks.
